Trying to remember, but if I recall correctly FoxBot was one of the best bots ever made for any HL mod.

Not sure if it would be possible to decompile Sturmbot, then rebuilt the code based on that and make it open source. It would be a lot of work.

Sturmbot was more advanced in terms of it's a.i., but Shrikebot was less buggy. Neither were as good as Marine Bot—sorry Jasp...

Also I've did some upgrades to AdminMod, Metamod-P as well as some other Bots, not just Marinebots. And I don't know why I'm persistent to host FA 3.0 from my Linux Dedicated server, but those HL1 servers as well as some of those Source and UT99 servers deserve to be hosted as well as played... But I'm disappointed that not all bots are open source as we are struggling to reverse engineer or hex edit Sturmbots for DoD 1.3.
Yes, I did write a bit of a monumental post about hosting HL servers on limited bandwidth back in the day. Not sure how much of that still applies because bandwidth isn't as much of an issue these days. And yes, I have been honoured to be a friend of Frank's for some time.

The Sturmbot story is a bit of a tragedy. The guy that coded that was very young and he died in the Indonesian tsunami in 2004, maybe before he would have had a chance to learn how great open source development can be.

There is another option for bots for DOD called Shrikebot. I lost contact with the developer of that. We had a bit of a falling out over Linux, which was mostly my fault, but I think it runs better than Sturmbot, although Sturmbot was more advanced in some ways.

If you are interested, I put together a mod back for DOD, as well as a sound pack for DOD. You're welcome to do what you want with them, if you are interested. Again, not my work, but I tried hard to include all the artists in the credits, and I would be surprised if some of that stuff is difficult to get a hold of these days. I will warn you though, we were a Canadian clan, so some of the models are specifically Canadian.

I am a big fan of old games, and switching to Linux has renewed my love for them, in part because they run so well and look so good on Linux, when you get the configuration right.

For anyone interested, my old clan, the Crazy Canucks, who have changed their name to Casually Crackers, because the Crazy Canucks name was kinda taken, is going to have a Firearms test night sometime soon.

We're not hardcore, we're just looking to have some fun, put together some game nights, and go from there. Like Robocop I'm now a Linux head. We aren't planning on running only Half-Life and Source mods, but I thought a Firearms server, for old time's sake, would be a good place to start.

Frank McNeil, the creator of Marine Bot, is one of our number, and because we don't know how many will show up, we will be running bots, just to make sure that the evening is fun, even if only a few show up.

If you are interested I've put up a website, you can find it at https://casually-crackers.zone/ Feel free to drop in, register, and join us if you can when we have our test night. I hope no one minds the plug here.
